MAN SENTENCED FOR TRYING TO RUN DOWN OFFICERS.(CAPITAL REGION)

Byline: JAY JOCHNOWITZ Staff writer

Albany An 18-year-old man charged with trying to run down police officers on two separate occasions -- once after he had worked out a plea bargain on an earlier incident -- will spend at least 2 to 6 years in prison on the first of a series of charges.

Benjamin Morton, of 277 Sherman St., had a string of run-ins with the law dating back to last year, according to Assistant District Attorney Cheryl Fowler. Morton, wanted on a minor traffic charge, was pulled over at about 3 p.m. Jan. 6 on Partridge Street. But he accelerated toward an officer, forcing the cop to jump out of the way of Morton's 1988 Honda Accord.
